Testing vs. Use
Under Article 6:230s(3) of the Dutch Civil Code, consumers are entitled to inspect and test a product during the statutory withdrawal period only to the extent necessary to establish its nature, characteristics and functioning.
In practical terms: you may inspect and test the product in much the same way as you reasonably could in a physical store. The 14-day withdrawal period is a period to evaluate the product, not a 14-day free-use or trial period.
Using a product beyond what is reasonably necessary to evaluate its nature, characteristics and functioning may result in a reduction in value. If such excessive use causes the product to lose value, the consumer may be held liable for that diminished value in accordance with Article 6:230s(3) of the Dutch Civil Code.
